Description

Just 30 steps from the condo to the powdery white sandy beach. I am proud to say that the unit is even better than the pictures, lots of upgrades and additions and truly is the best condo in the building. This is a TRUE one bedroom that sleeps four to six comfortably. It is not one of those studios with a small bed niche that others in the building try to pass off as a one bedroom. It has a Deluxe King bed with pillow top mattress in the bedroom, a full size "top of the line" futon couch which is more comfortable than a bed, 2 single futons and even an extra full size king air mattress with pump and lots of extra linens. There is a Pentium 4 computer in the bedroom with unlimited high speed internet access and wireless signal for your personal laptop. The unit is stocked with quality snorkeling equipment, quality Boogie boards, movie video library and even books. There is a full kitchen with large refrigerator, stove/oven, pots, pans, dishes and silverware, paintings of ocean and ocean life, track lighting in both front and back rooms, acrylic glass set, microwave containers, knife set, comfortable patio set with cushions .....Also deluxe toaster oven w/rotisserie, automatic rice cooker, 2 LCD TVs, Panasonic microwave, coffee maker and grinder, lots of towels, new Kenmore washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, remote phones and clock radio/CD player in the bedroom. The latest upgrades include granite counter top, travertine type flooring and a $3,000 leather massage recliner chair.
You will enjoy visiting because part of the time you have the white sandy beach completely to yourself (Yes it is always safe). The area (Hauula) is on the opposite side of the island from the airport and Waikiki. About 45 minutes to an hour drive. It is not far from the Polynesian Cultural Center (about a 10 min.drive). The city bus line picks up directly in front of the unit. Sunset Beach is about 15 minutes away.
Baywatch Hawaii and Lost were filmed about 25 minutes away in Haleiwa and North Shore on FOX was filmed 20 minutes away in the same direction. "Hawaii Five 0" is presently being filmed on the island. Foodland Supermarket is a major chain in Hawaii and has one ten minutes away. The building is eight stories high. Avoid lengthy elevator waits on your vacation. This unit is the ground floor corner unit, the most preferred location. All visitors have agreed that this unit is the best located one. It is thirty steps to a white secluded sandy beach. The ocean is calm because of a reef 1/4 mile out which blocks the waves. It is perfect for kids to enjoy snorkeling and swimming. The building has amenities like professional Bar-b-que area, workout/weight gym, swimming pool next to your unit and sunning area behind your unit. There is a small convenience store across the street to your left which is connected to a Subway Sandwich Franchise. Your parking stall is included and located right in front of the unit.
None of the other rentals come close to this one in size or location. I like to keep the condo in a condition that will guarantee EVERY guest will have positive comments. The unit extends from one end of the building to the other and measures approximately 850 sq. ft.

Directions

As you're leaving Honolulu International Airport take the Interstate H-1 (West) to Waianae Exit. Stay on H-1 (West) until you reach the Interstate H-3 (East) Exit to Kaneohe. Take H-3 over the Koolau mountains to Kaneohe Town. As you are coming down H-3 into Kaneohe you will see the Exit #9 to Kaneohe via SR63 (North) also known as the Likelike Highway. Take SR63 (North) to the SR83 exit also known as the Kahekili Highway exit. Stay on the Kahekili Highway going North towards La'ie. At the town of Kahalu'u Kamehameha Highway merges into the Kahelkili Highway and becomes Kamehameha Highway for the duration of your drive. (There is a local market "The Hygenic Market" and a Seven-Eleven at this intersection). Do NOT turn here...just keep driving north along the Ko'olau Mountain range. Keep going North towards La'ie on Kamehameha Highway, you will not have to make any further turns from this point. Just sit back and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Windward coast and the Ko'olau mountains. You will arrive in the town of Hau'ula in approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. The address is 53-567 Kamehameha Hwy. #116, Hauula, HI. 96717. The name of the building is Pat's at Punaluu on the right side of the road(oceanside).

Area description

‘Ula is the Hawaiian word for “red,” so Hau‘ula
literally means “red hau tree;” the town was so
named because of the profusion of hau that grew
around it. The flowers of these trees, which bloom in
late summer, were made into a medicinal tea— but it
was their vibrant color that inspired the town’s name.
Hau flowers are yellow in the morning, becoming
more and more red as the day lengthens. By sunset
in July and August, Hau‘ula was ablaze with the
deep red color of millions of hau flowers.
Like Ka‘a‘awa, Punalu‘u and other windward towns,
Hau‘ula is the principal living center in an ahupua‘a
(a traditional Hawaiian land division that extends
from a mountaintop to the coast and out into the
sea). Ahupua‘a provided most or all of the terrain
and materials necessary for the traditional Hawaiian
lifestyle. Materials that weren’t available within an
ahupua‘a, such as a special type of stone well-suited
to be made into adzes, were obtained through trade
with residents of other moku on the island, or on
other islands. The Hau‘ula region was very productive
due to favorable rainfall, but was managed
nonetheless with an ethic of resource protection.
Native Hawaiians conserved resources by regulating
hunting, fishing and forestry according to seasons,
breeding cycles, and the age and health of plants and
animals. The kapu system was integral to this
regulation; for example, in Hau‘ula, konohiki
(headmen) stuck tall hau branches in the sand along
the shoreline during the weeks when only deep-sea
fishing was permitted. This allowed reef fish to
breed and grow without interference, so they would
be plentiful when their season was at hand.
One legend of Hau‘ula involves Lanakila,
the hill across the highway from Hau‘ula
Beach Park, and two brothers who were
kupua (Hawaiian demigods or supernatural heroes).
These brothers could take either human form or that
of the hilu, an oft-eaten reef fish; it was said that
when they swam in the sea as hilu, the population of
these fish increased. Once, while swimming along
opposite shores of O‘ahu, one brother was netted on
the reef at Hau‘ula. The other brother, seeking him,
finally found an old couple who lived on Lanakila,
and told him his hilu brother had been killed.
Grateful, the kupua told the couple to stay in their
home, and went into the mountains to dam Ma‘akua
Stream. When he released the pent-up waters, all the
villagers of Hau‘ula were swept away save the old
couple, in their home on Lanakila, which means “to
rise to a high place.”
In addition to legends, distinctive local foods and
crafts also make Hau‘ula special. Good things are
often announced with hand-painted signs, and
though parking can be difficult, it’s almost always
worth it to track down such a sale or event. Browse
the markets, galleries, cafés and roadside stands.
Hau‘ula Country Marketplace offers a snack shop,
fresh fruit and seafood, and arts and crafts demonstrations,
along with a spot to relax under a hau tree.
Hau‘ula also has several small grocery stores, almost
all of which offer plate lunches or other takeout
foods. Even the 7-11 carries spam musubi, a perennial
favorite with a slice of spam sandwiched in
white rice wrapped in nori (an edible seaweed paper
originally from Japan).
